my place and yours - where I sleep

When Vic announced this week's MPAY theme, it seemed the perfect time for me to finally join in - this blog's been a little sleepy of late!

Our bedroom is not so photogenic right now, so I was not sure what I could share, until I woke up from a nap on the couch...

I'm not normally a couch-napper, but have found myself falling asleep here a bit lately.

As of yesterday, though, this couch has a new resident, an outstandingly good sleeper - our adored adopted shelter cat!

snatching snippets

Recently, I have felt that life has been moving too fast and in too many directions for me to catch up... that no matter how hard I try and how much I want to, I just can't stay "on top" of things.

Finally, I've decided to try something different for a while... well, actually, to stop trying so hard.

To lower the bar a little and let things go, to spend some time working out what matters and what doesn't. For me, being creative does matter, and I know I need to give myself more time and energy to be creative and do creative things.

In the mean time, here are a few "snippets" of creativity that have emerged from our home in the last few weeks...

I've enjoyed snatching moments to hook (at times veering into obsessive hooking, just as Nicole said I would), enjoying the rhythm of repeating trebles as I make a scarf that will probably be ready in mid summer...

Mum and girl collaborations have continued...

My favourite creative moment of the week was watching our amazing 4 year old act out the life cycle of a fly...(possibly the first and only time in my life that I will think kindly of maggots)

walking the walk

This weekend, I spent a good few hours walking - joining some workmates in a local "Relay for Life," a fundraiser for The Cancer Council.

At the end, we stretched, and celebrated our fundraising achievements... but as I drove home, I started feeling frustrated that we should have to hold fundraisers like this for crucial services that don't get the government funding they need.

This quote popped into my head... (we had this tea towel when I was growing up!)

Or, relating to some recent announcements:

"it will be a great day when our healthcare services get all the money they need, and the MCG has to hold a cake stall to refurbish the Great Southern Stand"

(OK, not so catchy, but hopefully you get my point...).

My guess is, most of you will already have heard about Cam's Call for Help, and maybe have already written to those in power to ask them to overturn The Alfred Hospital's decision to reduce lung transplants in coming weeks... but if you haven't, please do (you can click on the picture below to travel to her website).

Today, she announced that she felt "itchy stitchy"...

you know, that feeling you get when all you want to do is stitch...

and stitch...

and stitch...

Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you get to do just what you like for a while? I hope you got that chance today too.

P.S. - we used nylon netting as the " invisible fabric" (when I couldn't find the hessian I know I have somewhere...), and a yarn needle. Super easy and fun!
