my creative space

So, last week I was telling you about my CD rack dollhouse-to-be ... what I didn't tell you was that I'd already been planning another DIY dollhouse, which I nearly abandoned, but have decided to finish after all (and how fun will it be to have two houses? The residents will have neighbours to visit!!).

This is how it looked this morning...

yep, it's made out of nappy boxes.

Unfortunately in the "everything's too hard" stage of early parenting I decided I wouldn't be able to cope with cloth nappies - in retrospect, it probably could have been achievable - but, enough of the could-have-beens, at least I'm reusing the boxes, yes?!

I decided to go through my collection of used wrapping papers to find some good "wallpaper" - and a not insignificant amount of time passed by as I reminiscenced (yes, I know, it's just wrapping paper... no prizes for guessing where I sit on the hoarder - chucker continuum!).

I did at least manage to get back to the job and install a lovely terracotta roof (this paper was wrapped around some flowers we received when Mini Blogger was born... yes that was three years ago... but look how useful it is now?... have I convinced anyone??).

For those of you who don't crazily hoard paper but would like to make a cardboard dollhouse, visit Sarah for another idea (and a giveaway too!).

Of course it's Thursday, so Kirsty's is the place to be - see you there!

ohhh my, I think we think alike!
I have been thinking about that cd tower since you posted it & then thought maybe I could do a box..no wait, maybe I could hammer a few bits of wood together, maybe I can do something by christmas...
i like that!! and yes, I hoard wrapping paper aswell & hate buying it for environmental reasons.
we did the cloth nappies for both, not as hard as you may think.
great space Catherine.

Very clever! What a great house. There's no way I can tell they were nappy boxes! That means you've done a good job. Can you show us what it's like when it's finished?

Hoard! Hoard! Hoard!

I love your idea of reusing the boxes for a doll house and using wrapping paper for wall paper. I'll put my hand up and admit that I'm a wrapping paper hoarder too! Wrapping paper is too expensive to waste.xo

So charming and a fantastic way to recycle those pesky nappy boxes. I love that your daughter's dolls will have 'neighbours' - how cool is that?!?!

Cool dollshouse! And I love that huggies nappy boxes are white inside - we have reused ours often for all sorts of things. Nothing this grand though! Love that you still remember where the papers came from - a girl after my own heart!

Love it! It's a great idea! I too collect used wrapping paper and reuse it for cutting and pasting activities with the three year old. Or use it again for wrapping presents. My inlaws think I'm crazy. Looking forward to seeing the finished house!
