my creative space - the ephemeral dollhouse

I've gone on and on about this dollhouse, haven't I? Not to mention spent much time thinking about decorating options, even wishing I had more hoarded papers to choose from (I know, really...).

Then, I came to a realisation - this is a cardboard dollhouse.

It is, ultimately, designed to be short lived, even disposable. It is also a dollhouse for a small child - a small child who sees "bananas" and "boats" in scraps of fabric or cardboard. It does not have to be perfect, or even finished, to be loved.

So here it is: the ephemeral, happily unfinished dollhouse.

The art room - filled with happy music, loads of natural light from a lovely big window, and inspiration from Leunig and Van Gogh...

The (unchanged) dining room (a buffet might be nice in here)...

The extra - bright kitchen, with wonky stove, wonky lino, and an empty fridge - not for long...

The floral bedroom - with just one bed for 7 dolls...

I wonder what will happen to this house next? The one thing I know is, I won't be the one making the decisions... and it will probably never be "finished".

More creative spaces here.

Oh my! How cute are those little things!

Thanks for popping by my blog earlier. The paint I used is Dulux Red Box in High Gloss. Unfortunately it is oil based and hard to apply, and it STINKS! But the result is pretty bloody awesome!

I love this hose (!!!) and went through all your prewier posts. There are really so many things to love; the piano, obviously, and the floral room (wouldn't mind to have one of my own). It will indeed be interesting to follow its destiny. I made a simple house from cardboard for my daughter last week; at first she was very impressed, and then she smashed it in a blink of an eye :)))

Oh my god Catheine, i LOVE your dollhouse!! It is wonderful. I especially love the kitchen, it's yellow like mine! And the wonky lino and stovetop, oh I love.
You're a whiz! xo

It is soooo sweet, you've done a brilliant job. I'm sure your little one doesn't even notice that it isn't finished.

- I came here after you commented on mine and what a great house! Thanks for coming by - I would lvoe to read a post about the stories from your niece. I so love the idea. I bet the dolls house will be so much more loved and used than any 'bought' version.

Lovely little house. I'm looking for a thrifted dolls house that I can decorate and make pretty. I've been ordering wallpaper samples for a bit of posh decorating!!! x

I love your cardboard dolls house! My son doesn't play with his doll's house (its not a gorgeous handmade house like yours) but maybe boys, even only 3 year old boys just don't see the fun in playing with dolls houses. I feel like I'm rambling... Your evolving dolls house is great and what fun you guys can have adding to it over time!
